RTA rigorously monitors schools and operators to ensure compliance with safety standards. This includes inspections of school buses and operators.
The authority outlined the requirements and expectations for school bus operators, drivers, and attendants:
-
School transport operators must ensure drivers strictly follow traffic rules, especially around schools.
-
Drivers should not impede traffic flow, to minimize congestion and maintain smooth traffic movement.
-
Operators are required to provide comprehensive training for drivers and attendants, focusing on safe and professional student interactions, under RTA’s supervision.
-
Buses must be equipped with necessary safety features and measures.
-
Operators need to maintain regular communication with parents to assure them of their children’s safety during commutes.
-
Drivers must ensure student safety by adhering to safe driving practices.
-
Bus attendants should escort students to the closest point to their homes during drop-offs.
RTA also reminded students to follow instructions from bus attendants when boarding and exiting the school bus.
Accident-Free Day
The Ministry of Interior previously announced August 25, 2025 — the start of the academic year — as ‘A Day Without Accidents’.
To encourage safe driving, the ministry has implemented a reward system for motorists who do not break traffic laws on this day. Motorists who pledge on the official MOI website and have no recorded violations on August 25 will see four black points deducted from their driving licenses. This deduction will be processed electronically by September 15, 2025, eliminating the need for visiting service centers.
Following the announcements, many motorists have eagerly signed up for the pledge, viewing it as both a relief and a reminder to adhere to traffic rules.
