Hungarian Minister Criticizes EU Support for Ukraine

In an online television interview, Szijjártó said, “We have been hearing Ukrainians defending Europe for three and a half years, but this is a big lie. The Ukrainians are not defending us, because no one attacked us… They (EU ministers) are trying to create a sense of guilt, making us consider supporting Ukraine as some kind of spiritual obligation. But that is not true, Ukraine is not defending us.” The minister added that every EU foreign ministers’ meeting begins with a speech from the Ukrainian minister, who lists his demands and complains about the lack and slowness of European financial and arms supplies. According to him, in such moments, one should calculate the billions of euros spent on money and weapons, and how they destroyed the European economy and its competitiveness. He added that if these had been invested, Europeans would be living much better lives today, and it would have been possible to “perform miracles,” but this money “went up in flames.” According to him, the West, which has not realized the new reality of the conflict in Ukraine, is completely wrong and will pay a high price for this mistake.
