In a scientific experiment conducted by a team of researchers at the University of Health in Texas on laboratory mice, the results showed that following this regimen leads to the accumulation of cells bearing early markers exclusively in males, without observing this effect in females, according to ‘Medical Express’. However, the study revealed another aspect, as it was not limited to cellular aging but also included an increase in oxidative stress levels in males, a factor that accelerates tissue damage and weakens its basic functions. According to the research team, the hormone estrogen played a crucial role as a protective factor in this process. Administering doses of estrogen to males almost eliminated the negative effects, while the use of the drug ‘Tamoxifen’—which inhibits the effect of estrogen—caused these effects to appear in females. Scientists affirm that these discoveries pave the way for an advanced stage in studies on customized diets, where ‘keto’ becomes unsuitable for everyone equally. From now on, nutritionists should consider factors such as weight, age, and general health, to avoid any potential risks for both males and females.
