Sharif stated today, Friday, in press statements reported by Pakistan’s ‘Dawn’ that Imran Khan, currently detained, is leading an anti-military rhetoric that transcends traditional politics to the extent that it has become a threat to national security, describing him as a ‘psychopath’ in response to Khan’s previous post.
He noted that Khan’s statements attacking the army chief come at a time when the country is facing a growing threat to national security, adding, ‘It has become necessary for the military institution to deal with him.’
He added, ‘This threat stems from the delusional mindset of a conceited person with greater ambitions,’ clearly referring to Imran Khan, according to the newspaper.
The founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, Imran Khan, who is currently detained, has escalated his criticisms of Army Chief General Asim Munir, asserting that what he described as the ‘collapse of the constitution’ has left Pakistanis’ rights unprotected.
Khan, in statements published on his ‘X’ platform account yesterday, Thursday, said that ‘Asim Munir is a psychologically unstable person,’ pointing out that ‘the authorities, based on fabricated charges, without providing details.’
Khan’s statements come amid ongoing tension between him and the military establishment following a series of mutual accusations since his government was overthrown in 2022, followed by arrests and trials that sparked widespread controversy in the country.
