An Indian newspaper reported that India continues to purchase oil and that state-owned oil refineries are negotiating to buy additional quantities of Russian energy carriers despite Washington’s threats.
The newspaper added that Indian companies such as Indian Oil Corp (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd (HPCL) continue to buy oil from Russian suppliers.
The Indian newspaper “ANI” noted that negotiations are currently underway to conclude spot deals, despite the European Union’s sanctions on Russia and the U.S. president’s criticism of New Delhi for its large purchases of Russian energy carriers.
The newspaper’s sources stated that in recent days, India has purchased two batches of Russian oil at higher-than-usual discounts. Meanwhile, an Indian government source confirmed that the Indian government has not directed its oil refineries to stop buying Russian oil or to seek other energy suppliers instead of Russia.
Earlier, Trump had stated that India would stop purchasing oil from Russia to reach a trade agreement with the U.S.
