Indigo, a top budget airline in India, is currently facing backlash after numerous flights were either canceled or delayed due to an internal crisis. On Thursday, the airline issued an apology to affected passengers.

“The past couple of days have seen significant disruptions across our network. We sincerely apologize to our customers and industry partners affected by these issues,” IndiGo stated on X.

The airline assured that “teams are working tirelessly with the support of MOCA, DGCA, BCAS, AAI, and airport operators to mitigate the impact of these delays and restore normal operations.”

Indigo informed India’s aviation regulator of plans to restore full operations by February 10 and requested exemptions from certain pilot duty limitations after canceling numerous flights due to pilot shortages.

The disruptions stem from “misjudgment and planning gaps” while implementing new pilot duty rules, acknowledged by Indigo, as noted by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

The airline expressed “deep regret for the inconvenience” and emphasized its commitment to swiftly streamline operations.

The Indian civil aviation ministry has criticized Indigo for its handling of the crisis, with the minister expressing dissatisfaction, according to a government statement.

Thousands of passengers faced disruptions for a third day on Thursday, as Indigo struggled to adjust its roster planning to meet new government regulations.
