Instagram Map

The ‘Instagram Map’ is akin to Snapchat’s feature, allowing users to share their active location with select friends. Users can explore locations and content from exciting places. Prioritizing safety, Instagram notifies parents of supervised teens when location sharing is enabled.

“Share your location and discover local happenings on Instagram Map. Parents overseeing teens can manage location sharing permissions,” Instagram explained.

The Map feature’s introduction led to concerns among users about unintentional location visibility.

Some were surprised to find their location shared, as viral posts revealed.

“My location was visible to all my followers,” wrote user Lindsey Bell, responding to a TikTok warning by “Bachelor” star Kelley Flanagan to her 300,000 followers.

“I turned it off immediately, feeling uneasy,” she added.

In a TikTok video, Flanagan described the location sharing as “dangerous,” offering steps to deactivate it.

Instagram’s Adam Mosseri clarified on Meta’s Threads that location sharing is initially disabled, requiring user activation.

“Your location is private unless you choose to share it with a select group,” Mosseri assured.

“The feature enhances friend connections by sharing experiences from interesting places,” Instagram noted in a blog post.

Users maintain control over location sharing, able to toggle it off at their discretion.

Friends tab

The Friends tab on Reels lets users view friends’ activities, including likes, comments, and recommendations via Blends.

Instagram announced these updates in a blog post, featuring a reel by platform chief Adam Mosseri, detailing the new features.

These features are now available in the UAE.

According to Meta, these updates enhance community interaction and friend connections.
