Boulos noted via the ‘X’ platform that ‘this is the sixth attack on the program’s aid in Sudan this year.’ He added that ‘both parties to the conflict continue to use starvation as a weapon of war,’ emphasizing the need not to target humanitarian workers or their properties. He called on ‘the warring parties to cease fighting and allow unobstructed aid access,’ according to his tweet.

The World Food Program condemned the attack on a truck within a humanitarian aid convoy in North Darfur, western Sudan, last Friday evening. It demanded an investigation into the attack and accountability for those responsible.

Recently, the Deputy Director of the World Food Program, Carl Skau, stated in press remarks that ‘airdropping aid in Sudan has become a likely option as a last resort to break the siege and save lives, despite being extremely costly and risky.’

The conflict erupted on April 15, 2023, between the army led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the Rapid Support Forces led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti) in various parts of the country.
