The spokesperson, Stéphane Dujarric, stated during the daily press briefing that clashes have recently intensified in the North and West Darfur states, with reports of drone airstrikes and fighting in several areas. He noted that a drone strike targeted the main market in Saraf Omra, North Darfur, on Sunday, resulting in the death of at least seven civilians, while other raids in El Geneina, the capital of West Darfur, caused casualties. The cities of Dilling and Kadugli in South Kordofan remain under siege, with supply lines cut and a worsening shortage of essential goods. In the Blue Nile State, clashes between armed groups have displaced 600 people from Bout town in the Al Tadamon locality over the past week. The UN spokesperson called for an “immediate cessation of hostilities, protection of civilians, and unimpeded access for humanitarian aid to all affected areas.” The war broke out on April 15, 2023, between the army led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the Rapid Support Forces led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti), in various parts of Sudan, mostly concentrated in the capital, Khartoum, leaving hundreds of civilians dead and injured. Arab, African, and international parties have mediated for a ceasefire, but these efforts have not succeeded in achieving a permanent halt to the fighting.
