According to Iranian news agency ‘Mehr,’ the summons came following an attempt by the mentioned European countries to misuse the dispute resolution mechanism included in the ‘Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action,’ known as the Iranian nuclear deal, with the aim of re-imposing previously canceled UN Security Council resolutions. There has been no immediate comment from the European side so far, but the move comes amid escalating disputes over Iranian nuclear commitments, where the Iranian side sees these actions as a violation of the spirit of the international agreement.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi accused the United States and the European ‘Troika’ (Britain, France, and Germany) of paving the way for escalation by spreading allegations about the Iranian nuclear program and obstructing diplomatic paths. Araghchi said during a United Nations Security Council session, ‘The European Troika and the United States bear significant responsibility for today’s decision.’ He added, ‘They ignore the facts, spread false accusations, distort the peaceful nature of the Iranian nuclear program, and obstruct diplomacy, thus deliberately and dangerously paving the way for serious escalation.’

The Iranian Foreign Minister also accused the United States, Britain, Germany, and France of complicating the situation related to the nuclear agreement. The United Nations Security Council had earlier on Friday rejected a proposal regarding the extension of the Iranian nuclear deal under resolution 2231. Meanwhile, Tehran, through Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, stated that the European Troika violated their commitments and do not have the right to activate the ‘Snapback’ mechanism.
