Washington – Sputnik. The President answered a question about whether the United States desires, as part of its financial aid package, to end the currency exchange between Buenos Aires and Beijing, in addition to closing the space base in Argentina’s Neuquén, operated by the Chinese National Space Administration. He added, “If that is what is happening.” During the meeting, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Besant stated that the United States did not condition the termination of the Argentine-Chinese currency swap agreement for its latest financial aid package to Argentina. Besant noted, “U.S. assistance is not conditioned on this agreement with China’s closure. Any reports in this regard are incorrect.” Last week, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Besant announced that the United States made a direct purchase of the Argentine peso in an attempt to support the country amidst the financial crisis and concluded a $20 billion currency swap agreement with the country’s central bank.
Argentina’s economic situation is difficult, characterized by a sharp rise in inflation, currency depreciation, and the accumulation of massive debt. Recently, the country has experienced a decline in financial stability, leading to increased levels of poverty and social unrest.
