The Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported today, Friday, a statement from the Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service announcing the success of its forces in eliminating Omar Abdul Qader Bassam, known as “Abdul Rahman Al-Halabi,” one of the prominent leaders of the terrorist group ISIS.
The Iraqi statement explained that “in implementation of the directives of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, with the support of the Joint Operations Command and under the supervision of the head of the agency, we announce the elimination of ‘Abdul Rahman Al-Halabi.’ This operation took place at dawn on Friday inside Syrian territory, in coordination with a coalition.”
The Iraqi statement emphasized that the criminal “Al-Halabi” held the position of operations and external security officer and was responsible for planning and supervising what is called “far provinces.” He was also directly involved in the bombing of the Iranian embassy in Lebanon and attempts to execute other terrorist operations in Europe and the United States, which were thwarted through precise intelligence efforts.
According to the statement, the qualitative operation was the result of precise intelligence monitoring and Iraqi judicial support that lasted for several months. During this time, the Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service was able to determine the target’s movements and whereabouts, allowing the international coalition forces to carry out an airstrike that neutralized him completely.
The strike represents a major strategic loss, as the elimination of “Al-Halabi” follows a series of successful operations over the past two months, resulting in the killing of more than six top leaders of the ISIS organization.
The Iraqi statement continued, “The Counter-Terrorism Service pledges to our dear people that we will continue to protect Iraq and the region from the evils of terrorism and pursue the remnants of ISIS wherever they are until they are completely eradicated and their deviant ideology is dried up.”
