Traffic in Dubai on the first school day flowed smoothly, attributed to improvements at 10 school-zone sites covering 27 schools across the emirate, as reported by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) on Monday.

Enhancements completed over the summer break have boosted parking at several schools by 90% and improved traffic flow near certain schools by 25% to 40%, according to an RTA statement to Khaleej Times.

The work focused on school zones in Al Warqa 1, 3, and 4, Al Safa 1, Al Barsha 1, Al Garhoud, Al Mizhar 1 and 4, Al Qusais, and Al Barsha South.

RTA highlighted key upgrades such as widening roads to the Al Warqa schools complex, creating parking for staff and parents in Al Mizhar and Al Barsha, establishing new school entrances and exits in Al Mizhar and Al Warqa, and adding pedestrian signals and traffic-calming measures in school vicinity areas.

RTA plans to continue implementing quick traffic solutions in school zones as part of a 2025 strategic plan, targeting areas like Al Barsha 1, Umm Al Sheif, Al Barsha South, and Al Warqa to enhance road capacity and reduce travel time for school visitors.

RTA also urged bus drivers and parents to follow traffic safety rules when transporting children to and from schools.

“We encourage using designated pick-up and drop-off zones, avoiding random parking in spots reserved for people of determination or emergency vehicles, and stopping at school bus signals,” RTA emphasized.
