Iraqi Government Investigates Land Seizures Amid Rising Tensions

The media reported that “after the clash, voices of farmers emerged claiming that influential armed groups had seized their lands, prompting the government to launch an investigation into the complaints.” Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Shia Al-Sudani said earlier that “measures will be taken against any unlawful encroachment,” emphasizing “the necessity of not being lenient in the duty to uphold the law and protect state institutions.” Simultaneously, American pressures on Baghdad are escalating to address the armed factions in the country, as the US Department of State and its embassy in Baghdad issued statements describing the faction involved in the clash as “terrorists,” leading politicians to believe that “the factions are dragging Iraq into a confrontation with the Americans.” Additionally, the provinces liberated from the terrorist organization “ISIS” (prohibited in Russia and several countries) witnessed widespread land seizures, orchestrated by political and armed groups, who fragmented these lands and sold them as residential plots, according to these media sources.
