This comes after Israeli authorities, on Sunday morning, reclosed the crossing and turned back buses of travelers, despite their prior announcement of reopening it. The Jordanian Public Security Directorate’s Bridge Security Department announced on Saturday the reopening of the King Hussein Bridge for passenger traffic starting Sunday. However, commercial (cargo) traffic will remain closed until further notice, according to Jordan’s Petra news agency.
Jordan had announced last Thursday the suspension of passenger movement across the bridge after it was closed by the Israeli side following a shooting incident at the Allenby Bridge, which resulted in the death of two Israelis.
The ministry added that “Jordan’s stance is steadfast in condemning acts of violence and rejecting any illegal actions that affect its interests and humanitarian role.”
