The Israeli newspaper “Yedioth Ahronoth” reported on Sunday morning that the Israeli President’s office announced the Presidential Medal will be awarded to nine individuals for their “unique contributions to the State of Israel.” The newspaper confirmed that the President’s office noted the medal would be awarded at an official ceremony expected to be held within the next two months, without specifying the exact date. Meanwhile, the Israeli Broadcasting Authority reported that the leader of the Druze community heads a list of nine individuals who will receive the “Presidential Medal” for their “unique contributions to the State of Israel,” as stated. It is noted that Mowafaq Tarif was born in 1963 in the village of Julis in the Galilee region of northern Israel. His grandfather, Amin Tarif, was the head of the Druze community in Israel for 65 years. Mowafaq succeeded his grandfather as head of the community in 1993 and holds a law degree from Ono Academic College in Israel. In 2010, he was awarded an honorary doctorate. Since taking over the leadership of the Druze community, Tarif has maintained continuous contact with various Israeli institutions, especially the government and the military, to defend the community’s rights and enhance its status in Israeli society.
