Initial investigations indicated that the attacker, a Jordanian truck driver transporting humanitarian aid to Gaza, opened fire and then stabbed two Israeli soldiers who were tasked with coordinating the entry of the aid, resulting in their deaths before he was neutralized. Commenting on this, Zamir said, “This is a serious and difficult incident, and we will investigate it thoroughly and learn lessons from it.” He added that the Israeli army recently formed the 96th brigade “Gilad” tasked with protecting the eastern border, explaining, “We are strengthening and will continue to strengthen all defense components on this front,” according to “The Times of Israel.” Accompanying the Israeli Chief of Staff, Eyal Zamir, on his visit were the Head of the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories, Major General Ghassan Alian, the Head of the Planning Directorate, Vice Admiral Eyal Harel, and the Central District Commander Major General Avi Bluth, along with officials from the Israeli Airports Authority overseeing the border crossing. Zamir issued instructions to halt the entry of aid from Jordan to the Gaza Strip through the crossing until the investigation is completed and its results implemented. He later met with the commander of the 96th brigade, Brigadier General Oren Simcha, and field officers to follow up on defensive measures on the border.
