The ministry, according to Japan’s Kyodo news agency, stated that the ongoing situation in Syria and the return of more refugees make it urgent to provide a safe living environment. They indicated that the agreement with the United Nations targets the cities of Aleppo and Homs, the most affected areas, aiming to rehabilitate the infrastructure in slums and informal settlements, according to the Syrian news agency, SANA. SANA pointed out that Japan is one of the main donors to humanitarian recovery efforts in Syria, having provided more than $21 million since 2022 to support the Habitat Program projects.
