Joao Felix expressed on Monday that his Portugal teammate and dear friend Diogo Jota will “always be remembered in football history” after the Liverpool star tragically passed away at the age of 28.

Jota and his brother Andre Silva lost their lives when their Lamborghini veered off the road in northern Spain on July 3.

Just 11 days before the incident, the Portuguese forward had tied the knot with Rute Cardoso, the mother of his three children.

Over the weekend, the Premier League paid heartfelt tributes to remember Jota.

Joao Felix, visibly emotional, joined the global football community in mourning, sharing his thoughts on his cherished friend and fellow international player.

Felix, who attended the brothers’ funeral, stated: “Diogo was one of my closest friends in the national team; we were always part of a small group within the team, always together.”

“I knew his family well, especially his parents, who are truly remarkable people.”

Speaking from Hong Kong, where Felix is with his new club Al Nassr for the Saudi Super Cup, the 25-year-old continued: “He will always be a part of football history, and will live on in the hearts of those close to him.”

“After that day, every time we step onto the field, we’ll play in part for him.”

Felix recently joined Cristiano Ronaldo at Saudi Arabia’s Al Nassr from Chelsea, in a deal reportedly valued at up to 43.7 million pounds ($58 million).

Felix, who has experience with Benfica, Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, and AC Milan, is expected to earn $10 million annually.
