Jordan Takes Action Against Banned Group’s Assets

A well-informed source told Jordan News Agency, Petra, that “a number of individuals have approached the resolution committee with statements declaring that they do not own movable and immovable properties, admitting that they were holding them for the group. The settlement has been made and the properties have been transferred to the Associations Support Fund under the Ministry of Social Development according to Article 25 of the applicable Associations Law.” The source indicated that “partners in shares of lands and properties have acknowledged that they are not the original owners, but were holding them at the request of the banned group, while other partners refused to acknowledge and insisted on their ownership,” explaining that “authorized signatories on a joint bank account in one of the governorates admitted that the funds they were holding were not theirs, but for the banned group, and these funds have been transferred to the Associations Support Fund in accordance with legal procedures.” The source confirmed that “anyone concealing property for the Muslim Brotherhood will expose themselves to legal accountability on charges of money laundering and breach of trust, among other charges if they refuse to acknowledge the truth after being confronted with evidence, including expertise and financial analysis.” In April, the Jordanian Ministry of Interior announced the group as an unlawful association and banned all its activities. Interior Minister Mazen Al-Faraya said in a press conference that “it has been proven that elements of the dissolved Muslim Brotherhood have been engaging in activities that could destabilize security and national unity.” Al-Faraya confirmed “the confiscation of the dissolved Muslim Brotherhood’s properties, both movable and immovable, and the closure of its offices and headquarters,” noting that action will be taken against anyone proven to have dealings with the dissolved group. Previously, the Jordanian General Intelligence Directorate announced that it aimed to undermine national security and incite chaos and material sabotage within the kingdom. Jordan News Agency (Petra) reported that “the General Intelligence Directorate arrested 16 individuals involved in these plots, which the directorate had been closely monitoring since 2021.” The agency added that “the plots included issues involving local tools and others imported from abroad for unlawful purposes, possession of explosives and firearms, concealing a missile ready for use, a project to manufacture drones, in addition to recruiting and training individuals within the kingdom and subjecting them to training abroad.”
