Jordan Thwarts Border Infiltrations Amidst Regional Tensions

According to a statement issued by the Eastern Military Zone and reported by ‘Ammon’, an armed group was detected and the rules of engagement were applied, resulting in an exchange of gunfire that killed two of the militants, while the rest retreated into the Syrian interior.

In a separate context, the Northern Military Zone reported thwarting another infiltration attempt on its northern front, where a person trying to cross the border illegally was arrested and handed over to the competent authorities for necessary procedures.

This comes as part of the ongoing efforts of the Jordanian Armed Forces to enhance border security and confront any threats that may affect the country’s security.

Earlier, Jordanian Prime Minister Jaafar Hassan confirmed that Jordan played a significant role in containing the crisis that took place in Syria’s Suwayda governorate during the past few days, noting that the situation on the border is moving towards stability.

Hassan said in a speech during a session of the Jordanian Cabinet: ‘Jordan stands alongside the Syrian brothers in achieving their goals by all our diplomatic means and assists them in all other aspects, whether in civil defense, technical expertise, humanitarian aid, or cooperation in management and others.’

He continued: ‘The relationship with the Syrian government is excellent, and there is communication and cooperation in all sectors and fields. We have started extremely positive consultations, and there is great optimism for the future.’

He asserted that the future of Jordan and the future of the Arab neighborhood is one, pointing out that the regional repercussions ‘are not easy as there are radical transformations around us that are clear to everyone.’

Violent clashes erupted in the southern part of the country on July 13 and lasted for several days between local militants and Bedouin tribes loyal to the government, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of civilians and military personnel, followed by the announcement of a military campaign by Syrian government forces to control the city.
