In an interview, Minister Al-Habashneh indicated that the success achieved could reduce polarization and defuse the war in hotspots prone to explosion, such as the China-Taiwan issue, in addition to the Ukrainian crisis and the highly complex issues in the Middle East. He described the summit as pivotal and productive in terms of paving the way for reaching a peace agreement regarding the crisis in Ukraine. Minister Al-Habashneh emphasized that the success of the Putin-Trump meeting would reshape international decision-making between the two superpowers, suggesting that China might also get involved in the decision-making process.
He pointed out that the meeting between the Russian and American presidents pulled the rug from under the European countries and anyone wanting to fuel conflict and hostility towards Russia by supporting Ukraine. He noted that everyone was deluded from the outset of the Ukrainian crisis if they thought they could break and defeat Russia in this conflict.
Minister Al-Habashneh observed that earlier today, the Kremlin announced a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his American counterpart, Donald Trump, in Alaska. According to a Sputnik correspondent, the talks between Presidents Putin and Trump in Alaska in a “narrow format” lasted for two hours and 45 minutes. Participants included Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Defense Minister Andrei Belousov, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov, and the President’s Special Representative for Investment and Economic Cooperation with Foreign Countries, Kirill Dmitriev.
During the visit, Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed that the dialogue between the Presidents of Russia and America had matured, and it was necessary to move to dialogue and away from confrontation. He clarified: “Russia and the United States are close neighbors, despite being separated by an ocean.” President Putin added: “The current situation in Ukraine is a tragedy and a great pain for Russia, and Russia and the United States have many areas of mutual interest for joint work, and we expect Kyiv will not hinder the progress made in the settlement.”
