At the KT University Expo 2025, students displayed significant enthusiasm for new fields such as cybersecurity, artificial intelligence (AI), and healthcare management.
This trend indicates a shift in academic goals, with more students pursuing technology-focused careers while developing leadership, analytical, and operational skills—areas that were less sought after only a few years ago.
Universities at the expo emphasized the significance of combining theoretical education with practical experience, ethical understanding, and interdisciplinary skills in their programs.

Growing Interest in Tech and Cybersecurity
Jyoto Manoj, assistant manager at De Montfort University Dubai, observed an increasing demand for technology-based programs in the UAE market.
“In particular, the UAE sees a strong demand for cybersecurity and psychology programs. These areas are gaining attention due to the rising need in AI and computing fields. However, data shows that business management programs remain the most in demand.
“This trend is consistent across universities. Student interest is increasingly geared towards cybersecurity, psychology, and marketing communications—some of the new and emerging fields.”
Students are also exploring specialized online courses, certifications, and research opportunities to address real-world challenges and establish clear career paths.

New Trend: Healthcare Management
Amro Mohamed, Marketing and Outreach Manager at GBS Dubai, identified healthcare management as an emerging trend alongside AI and cybersecurity.
He explained, “Our Healthcare Management program is exciting. Many students initially consider becoming doctors or nurses, but some prefer broader roles in the healthcare system, like hospital management and operations. That’s where healthcare management comes in, and we’ve seen rising interest in this field.
“Students can complete two years of Healthcare Management at GBS Dubai to earn a Higher National Diploma, then continue studies at other locations. GBS is part of a larger group called Global Education, with GBS Dubai, UK, Malta, and affiliations with several universities worldwide, serving over 60,000 students globally.”

Students Seek Direction and Global Opportunities
For many students, the expo provided guidance on academic choices and career paths. Luca Erkol, a Grade 11 student at the German International School Dubai, shared, “I was looking for direction, as I was unsure about college admissions. This event offered insights into what I want to study, where to study, and which universities to consider, especially if I plan to stay in Dubai. It was a great opportunity to explore education options and institutions here.”
He added, “If I look abroad, I’ll consider England or the US,” highlighting that while local options are appealing, global opportunities are also considered.
Year 13 student, Aakansha Rao mentioned, “I learned about new subjects like Public Health. I’m interested in AI and how technology can enhance healthcare services and support data-driven decision-making for efficient hospital management. It’s an intriguing field to explore, though I haven’t made any decisions yet.”
