Attendees at the recent KT UniExpo in Dubai left with more than just brochures — many secured scholarship offers exceeding 50%.

Students also found early-bird deals and discounts as universities compete to enroll top talent.

Fatima Alrajab, Manager of Student Affairs at Royal Roads University (RAK Campus UAE), noted that prospective students frequently ask about eligibility.

“Students come from diverse curricula, so they seek information about the minimum criteria for their specific streams.” To enhance the offer, Royal Roads currently provides a Dh2,000 coupon, with additional scholarships available upon formal application. “Students excelling in their first year can receive further scholarships.”

What are students inquiring about?

Dania Al Agha, Senior Admission Counsellor at the University of Dubai, observed that most students are interested in business and science fields, particularly engineering and AI. Digital marketing and finance are notably popular within business. She detailed the cost structure.

“For IT-related courses, fees range from Dh65,000 to 70,000 annually, excluding scholarships.” Scholarships up to 100% are merit-based and available to students of all nationalities. The university also offers the Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Scholarship among other financial aids.

Practical, industry-linked education

Olivia Turner, Academic Director at Dubai College of Tourism, praised UniExpo as a platform to demonstrate their focus on aligning student ambitions with budget considerations.

“We are thrilled to have participated in UniExpo. The event was an excellent opportunity to highlight DCT’s unique strengths — from practical, affordable, industry-focused learning to alternative education and career pathways. We emphasize connecting students directly with industry, equipping them with skills and experience for career success.”

Many emphasized the international exposure students can gain.

Paul Raid, recruitment manager at University of Europe, Dubai campus, explained, “Being a German university, students can start in Dubai and finish in Germany. This can be an option for those interested in switching campuses or pursuing a Master’s in Germany. We assist with visas, accommodation, and more.”

First-time insights, significant opportunities

For many students, UniExpo was a first chance to learn about Dubai’s university offerings.

Sitam Kolburan, a teacher at the German International School, shared, “Students were unaware of the universities available in Dubai. They had initial conversations about offerings, which was a valuable experience.”

Grade 11 student Kedija Adem, interested in medicine and public health, found several matching universities and scholarships. She stated, “I discovered a 50% discount at CUD, which I found rare. My first choice is the UAE.”

Hamzah Shahid echoed similar priorities with engineering. “Scholarships are essential for me. Many are available. My top choice is the UAE as it’s close to family and financially viable.”

Significance: affordability, access, and planning

  • Universities strategically use scholarships of 50% or more — at times 100% — to attract high-achieving students.

  • Early offers and coupons make institutions more accessible for those still compiling applications or awaiting final grades.

  • Students are more informed than ever, attending fairs with clear objectives in fields like medicine, engineering, AI, or business, and asking precise questions about eligibility, costs, and scholarship renewals.
