Hanan Jaber from Kuwait has fully recovered from oesophageal adenocarcinoma after undergoing a successful Hybrid Minimally Invasive Oesophagectomy (HMIO) at King’s College Hospital London in Dubai. The procedure was led by Dr. Ahmed Hassn, a consultant in Esophago-Gastric, Laparoscopic, Bariatric, and general surgery, as part of a customized treatment plan that included preoperative chemotherapy. Hanan was initially diagnosed following noticeable symptoms and sought treatment in various locations, including the UK, before being referred to Dr. Hassn at King’s Dubai. Her treatment began with neoadjuvant chemotherapy, followed by surgery. “Before coming to King’s, my life felt paused, filled with uncertainty,” Hanan reflected. The HMIO combines thoracoscopic and laparoscopic methods, allowing small incisions instead of open surgery, reducing complications, pain, and recovery time. Dr. Hassn noted that King’s Dubai’s complication rate is under 10%, with most patients being discharged in four to five days. “Hanan’s advanced symptoms required a thorough diagnosis,” Dr. Hassn explained, “confirming adenocarcinoma and necessitating a precise treatment plan.” Post-surgery, Hanan expressed gratitude for Dr. Ahmed’s compassionate care. Dr. Hassn was delighted to see her resume normal life two months post-operation, considering her cured. He emphasized the significance of early detection and a multidisciplinary approach for optimal outcomes. Hanan’s journey shows how advanced surgery and patient-focused care can lead to transformative results, allowing her to return to a normal, fulfilling life.
