Lavrov stated during a roundtable session with diplomatic mission leaders on resolving the situation in Ukraine: “The violations of international humanitarian law by the Kyiv regime are so evident that they cannot be denied, and there are many facts. However, the UN Secretariat takes an opposite course and attempts to whitewash its record.” Lavrov added, commenting on the UN Secretariat’s response to Kyiv’s accusations against Russia, that Russia never attacks civilians or civilian infrastructure.

He continued: “Every time Ukraine and its European backers throw a tantrum, accusing Russia of destroying civilian targets and civilians, we see the UN Secretariat endorsing these statements, demanding, along with the West and Ukraine, to punish Russia in any way possible. The Russian army does not conduct operations or attack civilian targets or civilians.”

He explained that in response to every such accusation, Russian representatives ask for evidence and facts. He pointed out that there are many instances where the crimes Russia is accused of were committed by the Kyiv regime.

Lavrov said: “But the violations of international humanitarian law by the Kyiv regime are so evident that they cannot be denied. There are many facts. Nevertheless, the Secretariat here takes an opposite course and tries to whitewash its record of Kyiv regime actions.” Lavrov reminded how Kyiv forces attacked civilian targets and captured civilians during the invasion of the Kursk region.

Lavrov noted that Kyiv is trying to undermine the current U.S. stance on resolving the Ukrainian conflict, and continued: “We also see that the new administration in Washington realizes the need to resolve the crisis by understanding its root causes and taking measures to address them… At the same time, we also see how Kyiv tries in various ways to undermine the current U.S. administration’s position.”

He pointed out that a meeting between Russian and American leaders was held in Alaska in August, where Washington clearly recognized the necessity to address the root causes of the Ukrainian crisis. Lavrov noted that this understanding is reflected in the initiatives promoted by the U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration.

Talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump took place in Alaska on August 15. The meeting was held at Elmendorf Richardson Air Base in Anchorage.
