Lebanese Cabinet Approves Weapon Control Plan

Barak praised, via his account on ‘X’, today, Thursday, the government’s commitment to implementing the November 2024 ceasefire agreement, UN Security Council Resolution 1701, and the Taif Agreement. The American envoy confirmed that the recent Cabinet decisions have ‘finally launched the solution of ‘One Nation, One Army’ for Lebanon.’

Lebanese Information Minister Paul Marcus announced today, Thursday, that the Cabinet has approved the points aimed at achieving a comprehensive and lasting solution to Lebanon’s crises. In a press conference following the government session on approving the plan to ‘confine weapons’ to state control, the minister confirmed that the government supported the proposed steps in the document, including restricting weapons to state control and deploying the Lebanese army in the south.

He added, ‘We tried to dissuade colleagues from leaving the government session, but they decided to do so to prevent the decision from being made in their presence.’ The minister pointed out the approval of ceasing hostilities between Israel and Lebanon. He affirmed Lebanon’s commitment to the Taif Agreement and UN Resolution 1701 and working on demarcating borders with both Israel and Syria.

It is noted that the Lebanese ‘Hezbollah’ confirmed yesterday, Wednesday, that ‘the party will treat the Lebanese government’s decision to disarm the party as if it does not exist.’ The party described the government’s decision as ‘a major sin,’ asserting that the decision represents a clear violation of the government’s ministerial statement and gives Israel the freedom to tamper with its security, politics, and future existence.
