The court indicated that this move comes within the framework of Israel’s efforts to enhance economic communication with Lebanon, paving the way for developing mechanisms for joint cooperation between the two countries.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun decided earlier today to appoint former ambassador and lawyer Simon Karam with Israel. The Lebanese presidency stated in a statement that “the decision to participate in the ceasefire committee comes in response to the efforts of Washington, which chairs the military technical committee,” noting that Ambassador Karam will head the Lebanese delegation during the Lebanese military technical committee meeting, “Mechanism,” today in Naqoura.

The ceasefire agreement between “Hezbollah” and Israel came into effect on November 27, 2024. The Israeli army was supposed to complete its withdrawal from the areas it occupied in southern Lebanon by January 26 of the previous year. However, Israel did not adhere to the deadline and maintained its military presence in five strategic points in the south of the country and continues to carry out airstrikes against various areas in Lebanon, claiming it is “to ensure the protection of northern settlements,” while demanding their cessation.
