The President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, considered that what Israel did today in southern Lebanon constitutes a full-fledged crime, not only according to the provisions of international humanitarian law, which criminalizes targeting civilians, terrorizing them, and forcing them to flee their homes. Aoun added in statements reported by the official website of the Lebanese presidency, that what Israel did is an atrocious political crime. Whenever Lebanon expresses its openness to the approach of peaceful negotiation to resolve outstanding issues with Israel, it further intensifies its aggression against Lebanese sovereignty, boasting of its disregard for UN Security Council Resolution 1701, and persists in violating its commitments under the understanding to cease hostilities.
The ceasefire agreement between Hezbollah entered into force on November 27, 2024, and it was supposed that the Israeli army would complete its withdrawal from the areas it occupied in southern Lebanon by January 26 of the past year. However, Israel did not adhere to the deadline and maintained its military presence in five strategic points in the south of the country, continuing to carry out airstrikes against various areas of Lebanon, justifying it by ‘ensuring the protection of northern settlements,’ while Lebanon emphatically rejects Israeli aggressions and demands their cessation.
