Dubai is set to see over 10 new traffic diversions as construction on the Blue Line stations progresses, ensuring smooth traffic, according to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

As of Sunday, RTA reported 11 traffic diversions have already been implemented as part of the Blue Line project.

On October 22, a new traffic diversion was introduced near International City 1 to accommodate Blue Line construction. The entrance from Ras Al Khor Road to International City 1 has been closed. In September, a major diversion was opened at Centrepoint Metro Station, following the closure of the multi-storey car park entrance from Airport Road.

Additional diversions have been announced to facilitate traffic flow during ongoing construction. The Dubai Metro Blue Line aims to enhance public transport, seamlessly connecting key districts and reducing reliance on private vehicles.

The Blue Line stretches in two directions. The first starts at Creek Interchange Station on the Green Line in Al Jaddaf, passing through Dubai Festival City, Dubai Creek Harbour, and Ras Al Khor Industrial Area to International City (1), featuring an underground interchange station. It continues through International City (2) and (3), Dubai Silicon Oasis, and ends at Dubai Academic City. This section spans 21 km with 10 stations.

The second direction begins at Centrepoint Interchange Station on the Red Line in Al Rashidiya, moves through Mirdif and Al Warqa, and connects to the interchange station at International City (1). This section covers 9 km and includes four stations. The project also involves building a depot and maintenance facility in Al Ruwayyah 3.

Alternative routes are available for motorists during construction and traffic diversions.

Public Awareness Strategy

The RTA has developed a strategy to raise awareness about the Dubai Metro Blue Line project, familiarizing residents, particularly those along the route, with construction activities and work stages.

Regular updates and information on upcoming traffic diversions are provided through various media and social media platforms.

The authority has conducted detailed field surveys in project areas, engaging residents and informing them about progress.

Regular community meetings are held in affected areas to gather and address public feedback. The first session was held in October at Mirdif and Al Warqaa, presenting project alignment and future traffic diversions.

25% Boost to Property Prices

Mattar Al Tayer, Director General, Chairman of the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), highlighted the project’s economic benefits, expected to surpass Dh56.5 billion by 2040, due to time and fuel savings and fewer accident fatalities.

“Property values around Metro stations are projected to rise by up to 25 per cent, and traffic congestion is expected to reduce by 20 per cent along the Blue Line corridors,” said Al Tayer on Sunday.

As reported by Khaleej Times, Dubai’s property prices have increased by up to 16 per cent due to transport and infrastructure projects, according to a McKinsey & Company study for the RTA.

Neighbourhoods connected to Dubai’s transport network, such as Downtown Dubai, Dubai Marina, and Business Bay, have seen gains above the market average, underscoring the impact of improved accessibility on property demand.
