Seven-time Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton canceled his participation in a Ferrari tyre test in Italy to stay with his ailing dog, as he shared on social media Friday.

On Instagram, Hamilton disclosed that his 12-year-old bulldog, Roscoe, was hospitalized with pneumonia and is currently in a coma.

The 40-year-old British driver expressed, “Please keep Roscoe in your thoughts. I want to keep you all informed. Roscoe caught pneumonia again and had breathing difficulties.”

“He was admitted to the hospital and sedated to keep him calm during tests. During this, his heart stopped. They revived his heartbeat, but now he’s in a coma. We’re uncertain if he will awaken. We’ll attempt to wake him tomorrow. I’m by his side and appreciate your prayers and support,” he continued.

Hamilton also mentioned in his Instagram Story that he was to attend a Ferrari fashion show in Milan, but he withdrew from that event as well.

Roscoe, whom Hamilton adopted in 2013, boasts an Instagram following of 1.3 million.

After finishing eighth in last weekend’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Hamilton was scheduled for a tyre test in Mugello, but Ferrari’s reserve driver Zhou Guanyu took his place.
