Liverpool have finalized a deal to acquire Swedish forward Alexander Isak from Newcastle United, signing him on a long-term contract for a British record fee of approximately 130 million pounds ($175 million), according to reports from Sky Sports News and The Athletic on Sunday.

The extensive negotiations surrounding this transfer have been a focal point of the Premier League window, which concludes on Monday, after Liverpool’s initial offer of 110 million pounds for the 25-year-old was declined earlier in August.

Both Liverpool and Newcastle have yet to issue any comments outside normal business hours as of early Monday morning.

Last season, Isak netted 23 league goals, leading Newcastle to a fifth-place finish and securing a Champions League spot. He also scored in the League Cup final against Liverpool, earning Newcastle their first domestic trophy in 70 years.

Isak skipped Newcastle’s pre-season tour, opting to train separately amid a tense conflict with the club, which manager Eddie Howe described as a “lose-lose” scenario.

In a statement, Isak accused Newcastle of unmet promises and misleading fans, affirming his desire to depart the north-east club, stating the change was in “everyone’s best interests.”
