Liverpool’s manager, Arne Slot, commended his team’s resilience following their 3-2 triumph at Newcastle United on Monday, highlighting the mental strength required to secure victories in challenging venues.

The match occurred amid Newcastle’s ongoing issues with striker Alexander Isak, who was reportedly the target of a £110 million ($148.60 million) bid from Liverpool this month. The Premier League champions faced a tumultuous evening at a fervent St James’ Park.

Despite losing a two-goal advantage against a Newcastle team reduced to 10 players after Anthony Gordon’s first-half red card, Liverpool was saved by a 100th-minute goal from 16-year-old Rio Ngumoha.

“Winning away at Newcastle necessitates quality, especially in such a charged atmosphere,” the Dutchman stated to reporters. “Not necessarily football quality, as that wasn’t evident today — apart from our final goal.

“That goal resembled what I witness daily on the training pitch. Yet, possessing the mentality to battle in such an intimidating stadium is crucial if you aim to compete at the highest level.

“Securing victories is one thing, but to compete, this mentality is essential — and that’s what we demonstrated.”
