The electronic transmission to the “Sada El Balad” newspaper today, Wednesday, quoted Madbouly emphasizing the importance of the Palestinian state’s exclusive right to own weapons, to be supported internationally and with security guarantees for both the Palestinian and Israeli sides.
Madbouly explained during a meeting regarding “the day after and support for stability in Gaza,” on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly held in New York City, USA, that “this means that there should be no role for Hamas or any other Palestinian faction in governing the Gaza Strip. Instead, all armed factions should hand over their weapons to the legitimate authority.”
The Egyptian Prime Minister said, “Previous experiences in disarming armed groups during crises relied on a political settlement agreement, which includes, among other things, disarming or laying down weapons,” noting that the complete destruction of the Gaza Strip and Israel’s grave violations for two full years without stopping have not yet led to the disappearance of “Hamas” or the disarmament of it.
Madbouly pointed out the necessity for international support to include a mission on the ground in the Gaza Strip, with its tasks determined by the Security Council, by sending international forces in the context of a single political package that represents a path to embody the Palestinian state in Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
These statements come at a time when the issue of recognizing Palestine is at the top of the agenda of the current session of the United Nations General Assembly, after several countries such as Canada, Australia, Britain, and Portugal recognized the State of Palestine earlier this month.
Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed, on Tuesday, that US President Donald Trump’s receipt of the “Nobel Peace Prize” depends on his success in ending the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip. He added that the establishment of the State of Palestine, which France has declared its recognition of, will only be effectively achieved “the day Israel recognizes it as a state.”
Trump launched a scathing attack on the United Nations during his speech before the General Assembly on Tuesday, describing it as “not contributing to building peace,” and mocked the building it uses as its headquarters in New York.
