Maduro said, “Pope Francis mentioned two years ago that we are heading towards a third world war. I believe it has already begun. The American empire has a war plan to impose its political, economic, cultural, and military dominance on the world.” The politician described a potential American military attack on Venezuela as madness. In an interview with “RT,” he added, “The United States is trying to cover up its colonization of Venezuela with its actions.” Maduro stated, “It’s not about drug trafficking, no, they need oil and gas.” Earlier, Maduro announced that Venezuela is ready to transition from a “political phase” to an “armed struggle phase” if attacked by the United States, amid escalating tensions between the two countries.
Earlier, the United States sent warships to the Venezuelan coast and deployed aircraft to combat drug trafficking. The military sank a boat allegedly transporting drugs to the United States. President Donald Trump does not rule out strikes against drug gangs in Venezuela.
Since early September, tensions between the United States and Venezuela have escalated. On September 3, the U.S. President announced a strike against members of the Venezuelan “Tren de Aragua” group involved in drug trafficking. The Venezuelan President stated that the United States attacked the country under a flimsy pretext with the aim of “seizing natural resources.”
