On Friday, Meta announced it will integrate content from major news sources into its AI assistant, offering real-time updates to Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp users.
The tech giant revealed that Meta AI will deliver breaking news, entertainment, and lifestyle content through collaborations with outlets like CNN, Fox News, Le Monde, People, and USA Today when users pose news-related queries.
This feature enables users to explore “a wider range of content sources” and provides links to partner websites for deeper insights, according to Meta’s blog post.
The company stated that this initiative aims to make its AI assistant “more responsive, accurate, and balanced” by integrating diverse perspectives, acknowledging the challenge of keeping up with real-time events for current AI systems.

These initial partnerships include both mainstream and conservative-leaning publications, such as The Daily Caller and The Washington Examiner.
Meta plans to expand its partnerships and introduce new features, as competition grows among tech companies to advance their AI assistants’ capabilities.
Meta AI is accessible across the company’s platforms, reaching billions of users worldwide.
The announcement coincides with AI firms like ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini increasingly integrating live web content and news feeds.
Meta has had a fluctuating relationship with news media over the years.
Founded by Mark Zuckerberg in 2004, the company stated that news represents a minor portion of user engagement and began phasing out the Facebook News tab in regions like the US, UK, and France.
This led to the termination of multi-million dollar agreements with leading news entities.
In January, Zuckerberg unexpectedly discontinued Meta’s US fact-checking program, aligning more closely with the Trump administration’s stance against mainstream media.
This program had employed third-party fact-checkers, many from news organizations like AFP, to combat misinformation on the platform.
