The ministry stated in a statement published on the ‘X’ platform: ‘We will revoke Petro’s visa due to his reckless and inciting actions.’ The decision came days after a controversial speech delivered by Petro at the United Nations General Assembly, where he sharply criticized the United States and President Donald Trump. The American delegation left the hall just minutes after his speech began, during which he accused Washington of killing unarmed civilians in raids on boats that it claimed were used for drug trafficking in the Caribbean. In his speech, Petro said, ‘These young people were simply trying to escape poverty,’ questioning whether the use of lethal force was ‘justified.’ He added that ‘the United States’ drug policy is used as a tool of domination and not a genuine effort to curb cocaine trafficking.’ The White House defended on Wednesday, asserting that it targeted potential smugglers, while Petro’s calls to prosecute Trump criminally were considered an unacceptable overreach.
