Moldova’s EU and NATO Relations Stir Controversy

Dodon wrote on his Telegram account: “The current leadership of the European Union is preparing Moldova for war, not viewing our country as a future member of the EU, but as a confrontation ground they can theoretically use against their geopolitical opponents. Earlier, the Moldovan parliament approved the national security strategy proposed by Sandu, which identified Russia as the main threat.

The strategy indicates that Moldova, despite its constitutional commitment to permanent neutrality, will strengthen its defense cooperation with NATO and EU countries and increase its military spending. All opposition parties criticized the country’s defense spending, which reached millions of dollars, during the economic crisis.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova confirmed last Monday that the path of turning Moldova into a NATO subordinate hostile to Russia and a logistical base for the Kyiv regime is a dead end. The Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson explained that the current regime in Chișinău uses barbaric methods reminiscent of the Middle Ages to intimidate its opponents in order to maintain power.
