Australian golfers Kayun Mudadana and Ella Scaysbrook set early benchmarks at the 2025 UAE Cup, powered by Emirates NBD, dominating their divisions after a stellar opening round at Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting & Golf Club.
Mudadana dazzled with a sensational seven-under-par 63, taking the lead in the Men’s Division, while 19-year-old Scaysbrook’s steady four-under 66 placed her atop the Women’s leaderboard. The tournament is gaining prestige on the global amateur stage.
Recognized by the Emirates Golf Federation (EGF) as its premier amateur event, the 54-hole championship is open to both genders and awards World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) points, supported by The R&A. This year’s diverse field, featuring players from 39 countries, highlights its growing prestige.
Mudadana’s Leading Performance
Mudadana’s round was fueled by momentum and precision, with four birdies by the fourth hole for a 31, and four more birdies on the back nine. Despite a minor setback at the 13th, he maintained an impressive lead, one stroke ahead of England’s Eliot Baker, a Walker Cup player ranked 67th in the WAGR.
UAE’s top player after round one is Sam Mullane, whose flawless five-under 65, with five birdies and no bogeys, secures him third place and a strong position.
Scaysbrook’s Determined Return
In the Women’s Division, Scaysbrook showcased maturity to claim an early lead. After placing second last year, she returned to the UAE with clear purpose.
“I was runner-up last year, so it’s great to be back. I traveled here specifically for this event. 2025 has been a great year for me, highlighted by a third-place finish in the US Women’s Amateur. I enjoyed my round today and aim to keep this momentum going.”
Close on her heels is Imogen Hall (Eng), who managed a solid 67 despite varying conditions. Playing at her home course, The Els Club, Dubai, Hall navigated both calm and windy conditions confidently.
“Playing with my dad on the bag was great. I managed my game well, especially on the back nine. Knowing this course well definitely helped.”
Pathways and Team Dynamics
Beyond individual accolades, the UAE Cup offers clear paths to professional golf. The Men’s champion gains two HotelPlanner Tour starts, while the Women’s winner earns a Ladies European Tour entry, underscoring the UAE’s dedication to elite amateur and women’s golf. The top junior boy and girl will receive invites to the Dubai Junior Desert Classic in January 2026.
The event also features a new team competition, with each nation nominating a male and female amateur. After round one, Australia, represented by Mudadana and Scaysbrook, shares the lead with Team England, setting the stage for an exciting battle over the next two rounds.
With top amateur talent, valuable ranking points, and professional pathways, the UAE Cup is solidifying its role as a key event in the region’s amateur golf scene.
Winners of the Men’s and Women’s Individual Stroke Play Divisions will receive the following opportunities:
– The Men’s Champion will earn two HotelPlanner Tour starts, paving the way to professional golf.
– The Women’s Champion will secure a Ladies European Tour start, reflecting the UAE’s commitment to women’s golf.
– The leading junior Boy and Girl will gain entries to the Dubai Junior Desert Classic in January 2026.
