Thinking of bringing flowers on your flight to Australia? It’s best to reconsider.
Recently, actress Navya Nair faced issues at Melbourne airport for carrying jasmine flowers.
Nair reported being fined by Australian airport staff for possessing jasmine flowers.
The incident happened when she arrived in Melbourne for the Onam celebrations organized by the Malayali Association of Victoria.
Airport officials found around 15 centimeters of jasmine flowers in her bag. Under Australian biosecurity and customs laws, importing fresh flowers and plant materials is strictly forbidden.
Because such violations can seriously threaten agriculture and the environment, the Australian Department of Agriculture fined her 1,980 Australian dollars (approximately Dh 4,785.53).
Afterwards, Nair shared a playful video on social media, turning the fine into a humorous moment.
In the video, she is shown at the airport dining, boarding the flight, shopping, and elegantly strolling in a traditional Kerala sari, with jasmine flowers in her hair.
The video features the trending song Onam Mood, and she captioned it, “Visuals just before I was fined.”
Nair has been a part of the entertainment industry for over 20 years. She debuted in 2001 with Ishtam and gained fame with films like Mazhathullikkilukkam and Kunjikkoonan.
