Netanyahu Plans to Run in 2026 Elections

On Saturday evening, Israel’s Channel 14 conducted an interview with Netanyahu, during which he explained his intention to run in the upcoming elections. Netanyahu responded affirmatively to the Israeli channel’s question about whether he intends to run in the upcoming elections scheduled for November 2026, saying, “Yes, and I will win.” Netanyahu leads the Likud party, one of the largest right-wing parties in Israel, and has served the longest tenure as Prime Minister of Israel, holding the position for more than 18 years since 1996, albeit in separate terms, with the current term being his third.

In the last Knesset elections, the Likud party won 32 seats, while its allies from the Haredi parties secured 18 seats, and the Religious Zionist Alliance obtained 14 seats, marking a record for the far-right faction. However, Netanyahu faces accusations of corruption, bribery, and breach of trust in three known corruption cases referred to as cases “1000,” “2000,” and “4000.”

Netanyahu’s trial for these cases began in May 2020, where he denies the charges against him, claiming they are “a political campaign aimed at overthrowing him.” In addition to his local trial, on November 21, 2024, an arrest warrant was issued against Netanyahu on charges of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity against Palestinians in Gaza.
