The judiciary in Hormozgan Province indicated that “the tanker was carrying six million liters of smuggled fuel, which constitutes a new violation of Iranian laws related to combating fuel smuggling.” According to official data, the tanker captain is among those detained, and they are currently being investigated. No details have been disclosed about the identity of the tanker or the nationalities of its crew members, maintaining ambiguity around the incident.
Authorities explained that the tanker committed several violations, including ignoring stop orders, attempting to flee, and lacking the necessary documents for navigation and shipping. The judiciary authorities in Iran’s Hormozgan Province announced on Friday the confiscation of smuggled diesel in the Sea of Oman near the shores of Jask City. The Chief Justice of Hormozgan, Mojtaba Ghahramani, stated that “the seizure operation was part of efforts to combat fuel smuggling networks, clarifying that the tanker was navigating waters under the jurisdiction of the Sultanate of Oman without any shipping documents or transport policies, according to Iranian media.”
He added that the ship’s crew, consisting of 18 sailors from India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh, had turned off all navigation devices before it was seized, noting that Iranian authorities confiscated the tanker to take the necessary legal measures.
