New Chip Operates Over Ultra-Wide Frequency Range

According to the study, the size of the chip is small, not exceeding 11 millimeters by 1.7 millimeters. However, within this small package, the chip operates over an ultra-wide frequency range, spanning from 0.5 GHz to 115 GHz. Covering this spectrum requires nine different radio bands, achieved with the help of an electro-optical modulator that converts radio signals into optical signals. The chip also uses electro-optical oscillators to generate radio frequencies within the ultra-wide band, enabling the new chip to reach speeds exceeding 100 gigabits per second, according to the study.

This technology is expected to be operational within the next decade, perfectly timed to meet our growing data needs, from ultra-high-definition streaming and the inclination towards using artificial intelligence in nearly everything, to augmented reality technologies and remote surgery.
