This development follows a previous test where the new Russian weapon, “Pusokh,” successfully destroyed a drone engine from a distance of 500 meters in just one second. According to a report by “Sputnik,” this weapon poses a threat to the future of drones, regardless of the type of protection they are equipped with.
The technical specifications indicate a power range between 50 and 100 kilowatts, with a range of up to 7 kilometers against ordinary targets and 1,000 meters against armored targets. The system relies on directing a laser beam supported by artificial intelligence, which can be employed to destroy dozens with a single charge.
The report noted that it can be mounted on armored vehicles as a specialized defense platform against drones. Tests are expected to begin against models simulating Ukraine’s long-range “Lioty” drones this August, with the potential for combat use before the end of the year.
Observers believe that this weapon represents a strategic development that could change air defense equations in future conflict zones, enabling Russia to lead the world in laser weaponry, a field in which it has excelled since the Cold War era.
