The Pacific Institute of Organic Biochemistry, Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, reported that its scientists have discovered a new substance in a seaweed known as “Costaria costata.” This substance shows promising potential in combating triple-negative breast cancer, which is one of the most aggressive and difficult forms of the disease to treat.

The scientists explained that the main mechanism of Fluorotol involves blocking a specific cellular signal known as “AKT/GSK-3β/CDKs.” When this pathway is overly activated, cells begin to divide uncontrollably. Fluorotol has shown effectiveness in disrupting its activity and reducing its impact.

The scientists concluded that current studies are focused on verifying the safety of the compound and its bioavailability in the body, paving the way for advanced research stages that may lead to the development of a new treatment based on this marine discovery.
