In a statement, the public information officer at the San Bernardino County Fire Department, Christopher Prater, confirmed that no injuries or missing persons were reported as a result of these incidents, according to Western media outlets.
The US Weather Authority indicated that the rain caused severe mudslides in small mountainous areas such as ‘Forest Falls,’ ‘Oak Glen,’ and ‘Potato Canyon’ in San Bernardino County, located east of Los Angeles.
The Fire Department reported that rescue teams managed to evacuate 10 people who were stranded in 6 cars on Highway 38 near ‘Jenks Lake’ in the area close to the San Bernardino National Forest.
Kyle Wheeler, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in San Diego, explained that the rain fell at a faster rate than usual, as the average rate in the area during summer storms does not exceed 1.3 centimeters per hour.
