Norwegian authorities announced plans to deport two Singaporean citizens accused of illegally operating a drone over Oslo. This development comes amid heightened scrutiny from European nations due to a surge in drone-related incidents.

The individuals were apprehended on Monday evening when a drone was spotted over Oslo’s fortress and opera house, violating a no-fly zone in the city center.

This event unfolded shortly before drone sightings led to temporary closures of Oslo and Copenhagen airports.

The arrested individuals, identified as Singaporean tourists in their fifties and sixties, claimed to be visiting Norway.

“Given that the detainees are foreign nationals, deportation or expulsion proceedings may be pursued,” stated Norwegian prosecutor Andre Kvistad Alme in an email to AFP.

“The investigation is in its initial stages, and we currently have no indications linking this incident to the drone activities at Oslo or Copenhagen airports,” Alme noted.

“Nevertheless, the case will undergo further investigation, including interrogations and technical analysis of the drone,” he added.

Some European countries have attributed increased drone activities to Russia’s hybrid operations against nations supporting Ukraine.
