Viola Davis, renowned actor and film producer, says she feels “younger” and “happier” than ever, attributing this to a specific reason, according to People.
During a discussion at The Television Academy Hall of Fame in Los Angeles, Davis was asked about her feelings after celebrating a milestone birthday on August 11.
“I feel fabulous. I’m alive, breathing, and about to enjoy some food. I’m happier than ever,” she shared, explaining it’s because she’s “done the work,” People reported.
She elaborated, “I’ve explored myself enough to do the work, and now at 60, I can honestly say I’ve found home. I discovered my ruby slippers, and it’s been incredibly freeing.”
Davis added, “Without the work, I’d feel old, but instead, I feel younger, more grateful, and more amazed than ever.”
The How to Get Away with Murder star has previously shared her insights on maintaining mental and emotional health, advice she also passes on to her 15-year-old daughter, Genesis.
“I told my daughter this morning she must have a love affair with herself,” Davis said at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival.
She continued, “She is the love of her life. I told her, ‘I love you, but it’s not me or any boy. Ultimately, you can’t let yourself down. You must advocate for yourself and be present for her.’ “
“Being present when someone hurts you, setting boundaries, and standing up for yourself,” the Creature Commandos star added. “No one taught me that. I thought self-love was conceited. No, it’s right,” People reported.
