Nicolai Tangen, the Chief Investment Officer at the Bank of Norway responsible for managing the fund, explained that this decision was made in response to “exceptional circumstances,” according to Western media outlets. This decision comes amid increasing pressure on Israel, as the Israeli government faces growing isolation on the international stage. Last July, the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Norway and Palestine signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at enhancing cooperation and close dialogue between them. The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also indicated that the agreement stipulates holding annual meetings between Norway and Palestine to discuss cooperation issues and new initiatives that both countries can jointly implement. The statement conveyed the words of Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide, who said: “This agreement is a clear expression of Norway’s support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent and democratic Palestinian state.”
