Oman and Allies Condemn Israeli Actions in Gaza

This was stated in an official statement issued by the Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which pointed to “Israel’s disregard for international legitimacy resolutions,” calling on countries around the world, especially members of the United Nations Security Council, to “bear their legal and moral responsibilities to stop the injustice against Palestinians.” Oman demanded “immediate and decisive actions” to enable the Palestinian people to regain their legitimate rights and to end the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories according to the 1967 borders.

Earlier, Germany, Italy, and New Zealand on Saturday expressed their strong condemnation of the Israeli Security Cabinet’s decision to launch a new large-scale military operation in Gaza. The joint statement, published by the British Foreign Office on its official website, stated: “The Foreign Ministers of Australia, Germany, Italy, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom strongly reject the Israeli Security Cabinet’s decision issued on August 8 to launch an additional large-scale military operation in Gaza.”

The statement added: “This decision will exacerbate the catastrophic humanitarian situation, endanger the lives of hostages, and increase the risk of mass displacement of civilians. The plans announced by the Israeli government threaten to violate international humanitarian law. Any attempt to annex land or expand settlements represents a violation of international law.”

The Palestinian leadership had decided to approach the United Nations Security Council in protest of Israel’s intention to impose full control over Gaza, calling for emergency meetings of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and demanding the intervention of US President Donald Trump. The Palestinian news agency “Wafa” reported that “the Palestinian leadership decided and called for emergency meetings of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in protest of Israel’s intention to impose its full control over Gaza.”
